Ailie Lothian

Ailie is a highly experienced solicitor based in our Lanark office. She is a skilled family lawyer and also advises clients on conveyancing, wills and powers of attorney, guardianships, compromise agreements, and general civil matters.
An accredited family law mediator and member of the Family Law Association, Ailie is committed to helping clients resolve matters constructively. She also serves as Dean of the Lanark Bar, and is well known in the local legal community.
Ailie began her legal career as a trainee with Ness Gallagher in 2003, where she spent 13 years developing her expertise. She then broadened her experience at Smail & Ewart for 8 years, before returning “home” to Ness Gallagher in 2025.
Originally from a farming family in Ayrshire, Ailie enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, getting outdoors for walks, swimming, playing tennis, travelling, reading, and catching a good film.
